World's Largest Cruise Ship, Oasis of the Seas, to Visit Falmouth Jamaica Today, 22 March 2011
|
The new Falmouth cruise ship pier took years to plan and construct. For months, Falmouth and Jamaica has been anticipating the arrival of the Oasis of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship.
A joint venture between the Port Authority of Jamaica and Royal Caribbean International, the Falmouth pier welcomed its first cruise ship, the Voyager of the Seas, on 17 February 2011. Residents of Falmouth and from all over Jamaica turned out in force to celebrate this historic event. Since then, about thirty thousand cruise ship passengers have visited the sleepy town of Falmouth which is being modernized and given a facelift for its new life as a tourist destination.
The Oasis of the Seas will carry about six thousand passengers and over two thousand crew members. It is one thousand, one hundred and eighty-seven feet long and sixteen decks high.

If the reception last month of the Voyager of the Seas is anything to go by, the arrival of the Oasis of the Seas will see a carnival-like atmosphere sweep over Falmouth. People from all over, including guests of Silver Sands villas will make the trip to Falmouth just to see this magnificent vessel.
