Montego Bay Airport Tips

. . . what to expect and what to do when you arrive at the airport

First Tip: If you are arriving from a cold climate, before you even get off the plane, you should shed as many layers of clothes as possible. It's best to be prepared with very light woven cotton garments. Knitted cotton is much warmer than woven cotton. Wear woven cotton! T-shirts will be great at night, but warm in the day.

Repeat visitors, those in the know, travel with these light cool garments underneath warmer layers. So when they arrive, they just strip off the top layers and they are all set for daytime temperatures of 80 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Second Tip: Fill out your Immigration/Customs C5 Card before you land. You will be required to fill out this form to hand in with your passport or other travel documents. Use a pen and write clearly. Don't forget to sign the form and fill out the back sections too. If you don't, you will not be permitted to proceed and you will be shunted to a desk to do so.

Just for your information, the airport at Montego Bay is officially called the Donald Sangster International Airport.

Please Note: We have no control over the facilities at the airport and its management. We provide the following information which we believe to be accurate. Of course the airport authorities may change anything at any time thereby rendering the following misleading. If you should find this to be the case, please let us know. As soon as we know of a change we will update this page.

There are no trolleys until you get to the main Baggage Hall, so be sure you can manage your hand luggage as you will have to carry it to the Immigration Hall/Passport Control and then on to the Baggage Hall. claim your bags.

This is a very important tip: The carousels will deliver your luggage but if you get there late, look around on the floor near the carousel start and finish points as baggage handlers will remove the bags from the carousel when they get jammed up and place them there. So if you only look on the carousel, you may not see your bag which has been taken off and left lying beside the carousel.

There are trolleys here, so you can grab one, load up your luggage and head for Customs. If you only have your personal effects, head left to the far end of the hall for the "Nothing to Declare" zone. This is an easy process and before you know it, you will be heading out the Exit to Ground Transportation.

AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TIP: When you exit the Customs Hall, a friendly person will usually ask you if you are being met or if you are going to a hotel. Hotel guests being met by Tour Buses will proceed straight ahead to their waiting rep. Persons renting cars will be directed to the appropriate car rental company. All others, including our guests being met by our Mysilversands Rep, must exit through the right doors for ground transportation. This is where Jamaican residents would normally exit. If you are asked, advise the cab dispatcher that you are being met by Mysilversands, if you have arranged for us to pick you up. Our Rep will be there with a sign with our Mysilversands Logo. He/she will direct you to our vehicle which will take you directly to your accommodation.
