Our family has nothing but positive things to say about our 2-week stay at Silver Sands. Although we enjoyed all aspects of our accommodation at Oh Boy Villa, it was our helpers Elaine and Yasmine who made this an outstanding experience!
We travelled to Jamaica as a family of eight: two Jamaican parents who immigrated to Canada in the 1970s and six adult children plus significant others. The four bedroom, three bathroom house was a perfect size for us, with plenty of space and large windows in the main living areas; this villa could also likely accommodate larger groups, with most rooms offering twin beds easily pushed together for couples or kept apart for children. Overall the home was modestly and comfortably decorated, and offered a quintessential Jamaican experience with architectural design that is typical of the country's vacation homes (a unique opportunity for the tourists in our group, as Jamaican homes often tell a story with the addition of rooms over time, resulting in some odd but comical-rather-than-inconvenient walls and hallways). Close proximity to the beach and a pool deck in place of a front yard were undoubtedly highlights of Oh Boy Villa.
The staff at Silver Sands were impressive all-around. Administration staff, especially Trishelle and Desrine, were helpful and thoughtful, with almost daily phone calls to confirm our satisfaction and continual offers to book activities like a massage at the villa; a fruit basket was even given to us in honour of Canadian Thanksgiving! The beach bar and lifeguard staff were also excellent, especially Barney who could be counted on to cover our belongings in an unexpected storm and to ensure that we had enough beach chairs upon our daily arrival on the sand. Everyone we encountered at Silver Sands, even the cats roaming and the vendors selling, were delightful.
Although we were highly satisfied with all aspects of our stay, I will reiterate that it was Yasmin and Elaine who made our experience sublime. Both ladies worked tirelessly such that we were consistently well-attended to, that our home was always clean and sanitary, and that we were kept continuously full! As a family who love traditional Jamaican cuisine, we were thrilled to enjoy numorous favourite dishes at our request, including: akee and saltfish on multiple occasions; still-live lobster delivered for two specialty dinners; fresh fish brought straight from the fisherman; local fruits and delicious pastries like Johnny Cakes and banana fritters to accompany our deluxe breakfast each morning; scrumptious desserts; and our favourite, curry goat, with plenty of leftovers! With several dietary considerations in our group, Yasmin was impeccable at providing plenty of food for all to eat at each meal; meanwhile, Elaine confirmed that our laundry was always complete, no matter the interference with rain on the clothesline.
Thanks to Yasmin and Elaine, along with all of the staff at Silver Sands, we are so pleased to have a second home in Oh Boy Villa. I would highly recommend Silver Sands to any interested family!
