Jamaica Carnival 2011 Theme: Birds of a Feather
From mid-March to early-April, the carnival festivities are in full swing in Jamaica. It is again the time of the year for vividly costumed, eye-catching revellers to caper to the pulsating beat of soca music.
The carnival spirit is in full swing, a fact that is obvious from the festivities that are taking place all over the island.
This year, 'Birds of a Feather' is the theme of the carnival. According to Ibrahim 'IB' Konteh, Cultural and Entertainment Affairs Chairman for the Guild of Students, the theme was born out of a brainstorming session of the Carnival Planning Committee.
The theme will give an interesting feel to the carnival and allow the participants to be as creative and as colourful as they want to.
The festivities will take place at The West Indies (UWI), Mona campus and will be portrayed mainly at the famed Ring Road march. Each band will present a costume and T-shirt as well as a queen with their particular bird's image. The bands will then be judged on how well they interpret and execute the theme.
Guests staying at Silver Sands Villas can also enjoy the carnival celebrations in towns such as Ocho Rios and Kingston which are at a convenient driving distance from this secure community of Jamaica villas and cottages.
