Jamaica Carnival Starts 18 February 2011
Jamaica kick starts its carnival festivities from 18 February with celebrations continuing till mid April, the end of the High Season on the island.
Jamaica has been hosting the carnival once a year for the last 15 years. The carnival takes inspiration from Trinidad but has been suitably modified to local tastes. Each year the carnival gets bigger and better and attracts more than 100,000 participants including locals and visitors.
Though celebrations take place throughout the island, the main events are held in Kingston, the capital of Jamaica, in Negril and Montego Bay. Events include various music styles such as reggae, calypso and soca. A children’s parade takes place during the carnival days, but the main draw is the colourful adult parade held on the last day of the festival at Beach Jouvert.
During the carnival season, all Jamaica rentals including Jamaica villas, cottages and apartments are at full capacity, so it is advisable to book your Jamaica accommodation well in time. If you have not booked your rental, you may wish to browse through our Silver Sands villas listings.
