Bob Marley Week in Jamaica 2011
Come February, Jamaica comes alive to the beats of the Reggae. The beautiful Caribbean nation celebrates the birthday of the reggae legend Bob Marley, which falls on February 6. This year the celebrations will commence on February 2 and will continue till the 8th of the month.
Although the festivities are held all over the island, the focus of all activities is Kingston. Reggae fans and Rastafarians gather to enjoy a host of events in the memory of Jamaica's legendary son. The celebrations include music concerts, symposiums, lectures, karaoke contests, a fashion show, movies and exhibitions. The main venue in Kingston is the memorabilia-packed Bob Marley Museum, where he once lived and recorded his music.
The charming laid-back town of Negril, famous for its sunsets and its beaches, is another popular venue. Visitors also flock to Marley’s house in Nine Miles, about 45 minutes drive from Ocho Rios, where he was born and where he is now buried.
Given the high season and the festival, there is a huge rush for Jamaica accommodation during this week. If you still haven’t booked your Jamaica rental, you may wish to browse through our Silver Sands Villas Jamaica listings.
