Jamaica Wins Top Tourism Awards 2010
For the fifth consecutive year Jamaica brought home the coveted Leading Caribbean Destination award along with 15 additional sectional prizes at the World Travel Awards on Friday night.
In a sweeping victory, which has been dubbed 'Jamaica's Night at Tourism's Oscars', the island forged ahead of the other islands to claim for the fourth consecutive year, the Caribbean's Leading Tourist Board.
Jamaica was also crowned the Caribbean's Leading Cruise Destination, Caribbean's Leading Cruise Port (Reynold's Pier, Ocho Rios), Caribbean's Leading Airport (Sangster International Airport) and Caribbean's Leading Meetings & Conference Centre (Jamaica Conference Centre, Kingston).
According to World Travel Awards organisers, there were thousands of people who voted to select the winners including industry professionals and consumers worldwide, who have been voting online.
Graham E. Cooke, founder and president of World Travel Awards, said: "The level of competition here in the Caribbean has been exceptional."
According to Cooke: "Jamaica, in particular, has proved the rock of Caribbean tourism. By grasping new markets, new investment and new partnerships, the island has created a new form of tourism architecture that thrives come good times or bad."
Jamaica tourism focuses on providing unique travel experiences to its visitors and as a step in this direction provides a wide range of Jamaica rentals comprising private villas, cottages and apartments for a personalised stay on the island.
