Jamaica To Focus On Health And Wellness Tourism
Going beyond the traditional tourism, Jamaica is now focusing on themed tourism such as health and wellness tourism and sports tourism.
Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, who was speaking at the reception to celebrate the opening of the newest location of Jencare Skin Farm Spa in Miramar, Florida said that Jamaica has state-of-the-art facilities and the critical infrastructure required to support health and wellness tourism in the country.
The sun, sand and sea are of course an additional bonus for health tourism in Jamaica. Many vacation rentals such as Silver Sands Villas, Jamaica also offer guests spa services in the privacy of their Jamaica villas, cottages and apartments. The beaches and such personalized services provide the ultimate backdrop and facilities for a complete rejuvenating experience.
Jamaica is investing heavily in health and wellness tourism. In fact, the island’s investment and export promotion agency, JAMPRO, has secured technical assistance from the Commonwealth Secretariat to undertake the development of a road map for the growth of health and wellness tourism to facilitate the country's entry into the multi-billion dollar global medical tourism industry.
Research from consulting giant Deloitte & Touche shows that 1.6 million Americans could be travelling in 2012 for medical tourism, spending billions of dollars in the process.
Many medical tourists are already travelling to other cost-effective countries and saving up to 90 per cent on the cost of high quality medical care.
